More climbing stuff
Annoyingly, it seems the know-it-all shop assistants in Utah actually didn't know much. It seems quite a bit of the kit we've got, whilst just about OK for canyoneering in safety terms, really isn't designed for it - in particular some of the carabiners we have weren't even designed for belaying and the harness I have is for climbing, not going down - which explains why Sarah and Sylvia find certain things easier than I do.

Note for future reference - do not trust rude, cocky sales assistants in Utah outdoor equipment stores.

s/Utah outdoor equipment stores/any store

Well, I just had in interesting bitch session with somebody in the ski club bar about the local snowboard shop. The gist of it is they don't actually lie to you, and they don't give you bad advice as such... but they sure as hell wouldn't tell you if the piece of kit that would suit your needs better happens to be made by the manufacturer they don't deal with.

Sounds like not a million miles from your experience.

Do not trust rude cocky (male) sales assistants anywhere! My particular bete noire is hi fi shops. Luckily we've now found a really good top end hi fi place run by a couple of gay guys who really DO know their stuff and are willing to listen (to your views AND to your music :o)
